Regional Faith Community Summit on Pandemic Preparedness and Respnse
Oct 29 2007, 9:30 AM EDT | Post edited: Oct 29 2007, 9:30 AM EDT
An Alberta Regional Summit is in the planning stages and will happen on May 7/8, 2008 at Rocky Mountain College in Calgary, AB. A committee is meeting in November to start the planning process. This Summit will be similar to the National Conference held last June in Winnipeg. This was a collaboration between the Canadian Mennonite University (CMU) and the International Centre for Infectious Diseases (ICID). We had a good representation from many faiths and the goals set out were achieved. We now need to bring it down to a local level to keep the momentum moving forward and to introduce practical applications on how to get started.

We look forward to bringing awareness and education to the faith community in this province. My prayer is to introduce this type of summit across Canada and beyond.

Marg, I work for acompany that creates plans and hosts training seminars for Crisis and Pandemic Preparedness. I have personally been very interested in taking this into the religious community, and would love to help you in any way I (or my company) can.

Thank you Becca, that is a very kind and welcome offer. We are having our first meeting on Nov. 26th and so far there are 12 on the committee and 3 Advisors from Gov. and a Rapid Response Consulting Agency. I have been very pleased with the positive response from those who have been asked to help.

Please let me know your thoughts and how we could work together...from afar.

Thank you again for your kind offer and I will look forward to talking further.

Warmly,
Marg

Hi Becca,

I am sorry that I was not more specific in how you/company can help but I guess until we have our first meeting and get a sense of the direction that this summit is going to take, I am a little unsure yet.

I do not have funding yet to help with expenses so this is a big factor on how elaborate this is going to be. I am praying that resources will come from our collaboration with the government so would appreciate your prayers for this to happen.

If you could give me some idea of how you see yourself/company being of assistance that would be helpful.

Thanks Becca.

Yesterday was the first meeting for the Alberta Regional Summit. There were 13 in attendance with a very good representation from the Health Regions across the Province as well as others from the Faith Community.

After some discussion and gaining insight into the roles of the various health sectors, we came to the conclusion that what is needed for this summit is building networks and trust between the different sectors. We need to build those relationships of trust and to understand the working of not only the various faith groups but also what the government can expect from us.

There are a good spirit of cooperation around the table so I was very encouraged by our first meeting. Much work ahead but we are engaged and moving forward with God's Direction.

Becca, I still am unsure how you and your business can help with this summit but if you have any suggestions, please let me know. There were so many resources around the table that I feel that we should be able to draw on much within our own province. I do appreciate your kind suggestion, however. If I can be of any help with your plans I will be happy to pass on information learned along the way.

Blessings All,
Marg
